British Literature, American Literature, American History, Bible, Art, Yearbook
Hello. My name is Mrs. Nancy Courtney, and I am a graduate of Asbury College in Wilmore, KY, a small Christian College in the Blue Grass region, with a BA in art education and a minor in history. I began my career in Buckeye Local, teaching for six years as an art teacher in junior and senior high.
I started teaching for Jefferson County Christian School in 1987 and became the administrator for six years starting in 1989. Under my administration, the school doubled in size, the Harmony building was purchased from Indian Creek, the high school was begun, and we received our accreditation to become a chartered school from the State of Ohio.
Finishing my 30th year with the school this year, I presently teach 3-12 Art, Bible 11, English 11 and 12, and American History. I have been the yearbook sponsor for nineteen years and supervise the in-school art show and participate in the ACSI Regional Art Show.
I had been married for 37 years to my late husband Thomas, who was a former JCCS School Board Chairman. We are the parents of three children, all graduates of JCCS: Charles, Class of 1999; Laura, Class of 2000; and David, Class of 2004.
One of the reasons that I am a strong supporter of Christian education is because I believe that the Bible clearly teaches that we should have the mind of Christ. If we are to think like Christ, we must be taught from a perspective of truth. All the staff tries to incorporate our shared truth of the faith in our Savior, Jesus Christ, as the foundation for living. Believing in the living Creator impacts everything we do, what we say, and how we think and act. Knowing Jesus Christ is in charge of our lives brings a sense of peace and wellbeing that nothing else can convey.
I love the wonderful students here at JCCS. As I look out over my classes, I am always optimistic about the future because I see God working in their lives now. I see the Lord speaking to them and witness their sensitivity to the leading of His Spirit in their lives. I look forward to how the Lord will change the world as they are obedient to His call.
