Blessings to all! My name is Susan Potvin, and I am your School Counselor. What does a School Counselor do all day? My job is to help all students achieve academic excellence and close any achievement gaps. I do this by working with our students to gain the skills they need to meet their academic challenges. I am here to help them grow in personal and social development and to develop a career path for their future success. I work to help eliminate any barriers that keep them from achieving all the Lord has created them to be. I am here to be a resource to our families and a collaborative partner with our teaching staff. I also oversee our Learning Lab and Intervention Program.

I love the Lord, and I love working with our students to help them discover and unfold the plans the Lord has for them. Our theme verse for the Guidance Department is Jeremiah 29:11-12, “For I know well the plans I have in mind for you says the Lord, plans for your welfare, not for woe! Plans to give you a future full of hope.” What hope and blessings the Lord has for our students! What an honor to be able to assist them in this process.

It has been a great blessing to have been involved with JCCS since 1995 when my children began attending here. I began by volunteering (as we all do!) and then worked as the part-time guidance counselor for the next 11 years. I was away from JCCS for two years, running an afterschool program for Harrison County. I am grateful for the experience I gained there and I am thrilled to be back full-time at JCCS.

I am a Licensed Professional School Counselor, having obtained Masters of Education in School Counseling at Liberty University. I have an undergraduate degree in Mental Health and Theology from Franciscan University. When I am not at JCCS, you will find me leading worship in my local church and abroad. I have a passion to lead others into the throne room of our Lord through worship and praise of who He is. I also provide ADD Coaching and Life Coaching outside of school through Ohio Valley Student and Career Counseling Services, LLC.

I am grateful for my wonderful husband of 36 years, our 4 children, and one grandchild. I am honored and privileged to serve our students and families here at JCCS along with a tremendously faithful staff of brothers and sisters in Christ.

My office is always open, and you may call me anytime. It is not only my job to serve you, it is also my heart’s desire.
