My name is Susan Townsend and I currently work in the Intervention Department.  I tutor students in reading, spelling, writing, and phonics using the Orton-Gillingham approach.  I have been teaching at JCCS for 26 years, and during that time I found myself teaching various grades and subjects. I am now happily working part-time in the Learning Lab.

I grew up in southern West Virginia on a small farm with my parents and 3 siblings. I accepted Jesus as my savior in a small baptist church at the age of 12. I went to Marshall University and graduated with a BA in elementary education. I have continued my education with graduate courses and a year long training/tutoring in the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading.

I married Patrick in 1986 and we have two sons, Jacob and Matthew. They both graduated from JCCS and then attended Cedarville University and received their BA degrees in Communications and Political Science, respectively.

The desire of my heart is to share the love of Jesus with my students and to instill a love for learning. Every student I teach is dear to me, I am thankful that I get to be part of their school family.
